The Center for Health Behavior Research (CHBR) is a newly renovated facility at the University of Maryland. Under the current CHBR leadership, we have conducted studies evaluating over-the-counter (OTC) products, investigational new drugs and medical devices. Initial research focused primarily on nicotine dependence. However, as treatments for nicotine dependence gravitated towards drugs with central nervous system (CNS) activity, our area of interest expanded to encompass both addictions and psychiatric medicine. In addition to addiction studies (alcohol and nicotine), we conduct studies involving treatment for psychiatric disorders (generalized anxiety disorder) as well as chronic disease studies (diabetes and obesity).

The Center for Health Behavior Research is a comprehensive research facility. CHBR consists of a modern patient room for education and psychological counseling and social support offices. The CHBR also contains a medical exam room, resource/board room, medication storage and dispensing unit, a patient evaluation and monitoring unit, and a blood draw room. Laboratory and clinical research, together with public and professional education represent the principal efforts of individuals associated with The Center for Health Behavior Research.

The Center for Health Behavior Research is positioned to meet a tremendous health-care need, and ideally structured for maximum impact - not only regionally, but also nationally and globally. The CHBR is located in Department of Public and Community Health at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD. This location is 10 miles from the nation's capital, the world's largest and most influential political maze, and a stone's throw from every major federal funding agency.
