Dr. Elbert Glover is the Director of The Center for Health Behavior Research and has been involved in clinical trials research for over 20 years. Dr. Glover has established himself as an expert in the field of nicotine dependence. As a researcher, he not only possesses the ability to conduct research studies, but also possesses the skills to present findings at national and international conferences. Although he continues to evaluate new compounds for nicotine dependence, he has also ventured into evaluating compounds for other indications (ie. depression, generalized anxiety, diabetes, obesity, binge eating and alcohol dependence). Dr. Jessica Rath is the Assistant Director of The Center for Health Behavior Research. She obtained her Master’s in Public Health from Emory University in behavioral sciences and health education. She received her doctorate at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, specializing in intervention research involving smoking cessation, diabetes, obesity and aggression prevention. She is the recipient of two program evaluation research fellowships, the first was at the American Cancer Society and secondly as a Johnson & Johnson Evaluation Scholar. During her tenure at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, Dr. Rath was trained in motivational interviewing and applied behavioral analysis. She has presented her research at numerous conferences and is credentialed as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). In addition, Dr. Rath will soon become a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC).

Barbara J. Albert, MD

Dr. Barbara Albert is the Medical Director in the Center for Health Behavior Research. She received her medical degree from Pennsylvania State University and began her residency training in Internal Medicine and Primary Care Medicine at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. She completed her residency training and a fellowship in Preventive Medicine at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine in Baltimore, where she also earned an M.S. in Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology. Dr. Albert has been affiliated with the University of Maryland, School of Public Health for more than 14 years, where she has been a medical advisor for the Wellness Research Lab as well as a medical consultant for numerous studies.

Ms. Eva Sharma is an interventionist in the Center for Health Behavior Research. She obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from Kathmandu University, Nepal. She currently is a MPH student in the department of Public and Community Health. Her interest includes research in the field of public health focusing on treatment and support.

Berenice Rushovich, MSW

Berenice Rushovich is a health educator and interventionist at the Center for Health Behavior Research. She received her Bachelors in Social Work from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and her Masters in Social Work from Loyola University of Chicago. She has worked on other studies in the School of Health and Human Performance focusing on physical activity and the influence of the environment. Her interests are in promoting health and preventing disease and how environments contribute to health and disease.

Jamie Lok

Ms. Jamie Lok is an interventionist in the Center for Health Behavior Research. She is currently a senior Neurobiology and Physiology student and looking to pursue her MPH. She has worked at the Center for Substance Abuse Research (CESAR) and served as a peer educator at the University Health Center for programs concerning sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, and sexual assault and rape prevention. Her interests include reproductive health awareness and health education outreach to the college demographic.

Julia Rae Strnad is a doctoral student in the Department of Public and Community Health. Julia earned a Masters of Science (2003) and Bachelor of Science (2002, cum laude) in Health Science Education at the University of Florida. Julia served as a Leadership Associate to the Board of Directors for the American Association of Health Educators (AAHE), and served as the President of the Epsilon Chapter of Eta Sigma Gamma during its reactivation year (‘04-’05). She is a CHES and has worked as a health educator for Planned Parenthood of North Central Florida and the Tampax Health Education Program. She also worked as a patient care assistant at Shands Hospital and Planned Parenthood. Throughout her graduate studies, she has served as a graduate teaching assistant and now works as a research assistant/interventionist in the Center for Health Behavior Research. Julia was selected as the Dean’s Graduate Scholar in 2006. Her interests are in Body Image and self-destructive behavior, as well as clinical research. She anticipates graduating in 2008 and hopes to secure a post-doctoral fellowship before pursuing a career in academia.

Suma Babu is a graduate student at the University of Maryland, currently seeking masters in public health and working as an interventionist at the Center for Health Behavior Research. Suma earned her medical degree from Bangalore Medical College, India. She has served as a general physician and has worked on community health projects in India. She enjoys working on clinical research and community health care projects.
