  Maryland Website for Parents of Young Drivers
was developed for parents of newly licensed drivers by Dr. Kenneth Beck and Dr. Min Qi Wang in the Department of Public & Community Health with support from Maryland Department of Transportation's State High Administration. It provides information on driving risks, Maryland laws and parent strategies for reducing risks. A related project, "Monitoring the Future of Maryland: A Survey of Highway Safety Issues," is an annual survey of state-wide driving attitudes and behaviors.
 

Smart Growth Center / Public Health Team Awarded Grant to Study Linkage Between Adolescent Physical Activity and the Built Environment
A Public Health and Smart Growth research team from the University of Maryland has been awarded a major grant to conduct a three-year study of the linkage between adolescent physical activity and the built environment of the neighborhoods of high school students. The project, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation under their Active Living Research Program, will be directed by Dr. Carolyn C. Voorhees, a behavioral and social epidemiologist with appointments in the Departments of Public and Community Health and Kinesiology.
