Dr Glover is Professor & Chair, Department of Public & Community Health, & Director & Founder of the Center for Health Behavior Research at the University of Maryland College Park School of Public Health, College Park, MD.
An internationally recognized authority on the topics of smoking cessation & smokeless tobacco, Dr Glover has more than 200 publications to his credit. His work has appeared in such noted publications as theNew England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, American Journal of Public Health, Archives of Otolaryngology, Addictive Behaviors, International Journal of Addictions, Journal of the American Dental Association, Modern Medicine, Journal of Family Practice, Addictions, American Journal of Health Behavior, Preventive Medicine, British Journal of Psychiatry, Nicotine & Tobacco Research, Chest, World Journal of Biological Psychiatry, Journal of Electroconvulsive Therapy, American Journal of Medical Sciences, & was one of the 28 scientists selected to write the 1994 Surgeon General Report on Tobacco & Youth.
Dr Glover's particular interest remains in the research of cessation aids for individuals interested in quitting tobacco. He has conducted clinical trials with various nicotine pharmacologic adjuncts ie, nicotine gum (2mg & 4mg), nicotine transdermal patches, nicotine oral inhaler, nicotine nasal spray, & the nicotine sublingual tablet (the only phase III clinical trial conducted in the US). Moreover, he has completed cessation trials with lobeline sulfate (nicotine blocker), bupropion SR (anti-depressant), mecamylamine (antihypertensive), an anxiolytic (anxiety), sibutramine (weight reduction), rimonabant (the first drug in its class [endocabinnoid], a nicotine vaccine, varenicline (the first drug in its class [partial agonist]), selegiline (Parkinson’s & depression), & other compounds. He maintains a keen interest in the physician's role in smoking cessation & has delivered over 480 invited medical grand rounds/workshops on the subject to physicians throughout the world. Moreover, he has delivered over 335 national & international professional presentations to various medical & health professional organizations around the world. He has conducted research with a variety of populations ie, pregnancy women, gastrointestinal disorders, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, young adults, depressed persons & smokeless tobacco users. Due to his expertise in clinical trials research, he has ventured into evaluating compounds for treating depression, generalized anxiety, diabetes, ADHD, Alzheimer’s Disease, bi-polar disorder, binge-eating, & obesity all for which he has held major grants.
Dr Glover serves in various capacities for 20 key health journals and/or publications among these are the American Journal of Public Health, Addictive Behaviors, NCI Journal, Journal Clinical Advances in Smoking Cessation, Physician & Sportsmedicine, Medical Self-Care, Public Health Reports, American Journal of Health Education, Journal of School Health, Journal of Family Practice, Journal of Alcohol & Drug Education, Advances in Dental Research, Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Southern Medical Journal, Nicotine & Tobacco Research, Drug Discovery Today, & the Journal of the American Medical Association. He is Editor of the American Journal of Health Behavior & founder of the American Academy of Health Behavior. Dr Glover is a fellow in the American Academy of Health Behavior, the American School Health Education & the Royal Institute of Public Health (UK). He was named the 2003 Distinguished Scholar for the American Association of Health Education (AAHE), The 2005 Alliance Scholar for AAHPERD (only the 4th health educator in AAHPERD history to receive this distinction), and will be awarded the 2008 American Academy of Health Behaviors’ distinquised Research Laureate Medallion at the next annual meeting.
Among his professional memberships are the American Public Health Association, the American School Health Association, Association for the Advancement of Health Education,Society of Behavioral Medicine, Society for Research on Nicotine & Tobacco, & American Academy of Health Behavior.

Dr Glover resides in Laurel, MD with his wife, partner, colleague & friend, Penny. Dr Glover's two sons; Jason, an ocean engineer; Jeremiah, an aspiring screenwriter living in New York City, & a daughter, Paris born 12/01/03. Dr Glover also has 4 grandchildren.
